Voting on Polling Day

On June 11, 2012, polling stations will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In addition, you will receive in your domicile the “reminder card” (example) indicating the address of your polling station.

The card also contains the names of the candidates running in your electoral division.

Identification of the elector

To vote, you have to establish your identity by presenting one of the following documents:

• your health insurance card;
• your driver’s license;
• your Canadian passport;
• your certificate of Indian status; or
• your Canadian Forces ID.

Four Hours to go and Vote – It’s your Right!

On polling day, June 11, 2012, your employer must give you at least four consecutive hours to go and vote when polls are open.

This leave:

• applies during the normal hours of operation of polling stations (9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.);
• excludes the time normally allotted for meals;
• cannot give rise to any wage reduction or other sanction;
• is valid for polling day, but not for advance polling.

How to Vote

Simply mark the ballot paper (example) only in one of the circles using exclusively the pencil that will be provided to you by the deputy returning officer.
