Mission of the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec at the provincial elections
As the person responsible for administering provincial elections, the Chief Electoral Officer:
- trains the election officers;
- updates the information contained on the permanent list of electors;
- supervises the revision and balloting process and, if need be, the enumeration process;
- gives instructions for enforcing the Election Act.
With respect to financing and control of election expenses, the Chief Electoral Officer:
- authorizes the parties, a party’s authorities, the independent members, and the independent candidates to collect contributions and incur election expenses;
- verifies that such expenses comply with the provisions of the Election Act;
- examines the financial reports;
- verifies the returns of election expenses; and
- ensures that an allowance is paid to authorized parties.
In addition, the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec is responsible for inquiries and legal proceedings, whether in relation to polls or political financing. Finally, he makes sure that electors receive pertinent information.
